The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 455

Sensing the tension in the air Mi Mi retracted her hand with a guilty expression. It was then she realised that there were certain mortals one shouldn’t even dream of being with because they had their fated match who were equally heaven defying.

Touching her not so flawless skin she suddenly felt like she and Yi Chen were worlds apart. She watched on as Yi Chen walked over his eyes set on one person with a glint of obsession and possessiveness. He pulled Zi Han’s wrist his jaw clenched tightly and his face flushed.

What he wanted to ask was, “Why did you let her touch you?” but he ended up turning his palms over checking if his hands were okay.

“Don’t cook often. I don’t want you to get burnt,” he said but what he meant was, “don’t cook for others. I get very jealous.”

Zi Han almost rolled his eyes as he took his hands away. “Go get the plates,” he said before sitting down. Old Du saw everything and couldn’t help but glance at his daughter who was staring at the pair with a look of astonishment.

When her mother was around all she did was yell at her father. They rarely showed their affection despite being married for so long. This was the first time she had seen people being so tender with each other and it wasn’t forced. It was like a natural response and very tacit.

Yi Chen passed her exuding a sinister aura that sent shivers down her spine. She was so terrified that she didn’t dare look at him.

“Ah, since this is a happy occasion then how about we drink,” said Old Du trying to dispel some of that tension.

.....

Alcohol could indeed make friends out of enemies. A few drinks in and the smell of gunpowder in the air was completely neutralised.

Zi Han picked out some of the chillis from Yi Chen’s plate and Yi Chen glanced at him wondering why he was being deprived of the colorful red and green things. Yes, Yi Chen even forgot what those things were called. If a doctor was to examine him they would diagnose him with selective memory loss.

Zi Han saw his aggrieved expression and smiled lightly while touching the back of his hand with his. “You like the flavour but can’t stand the burn from the chilli. You never say it but I can tell,” said Zi Han before eating the chilli.

Throughout the years Yi Chen’s tastes had changed but he never said anything. Zi Han was the one who noticed the subtle changes and he would adjust his meals accordingly. In other words, there was no better person to be his spouse apart from Zi Han.

The love they had for each other was what some would classify as a blessing that plenty can’t have the privilege to experience and Old Du could see it. He took a sip of his wine and said, “So how long have you been married?”

Yi Chen lightly rubbed the back of Zi Han’s hand with his forefinger resisting the urge to place his hand behind Zi Han’s waist.

“Not married yet but engaged,” said Zi Han but when he recalled the ring that was now in his possession Zi Han moved his hand away and took a huge gulp of the clear alcohol in the cup.

Though the wine was strong it seemed this was the only thing in the Republic Zi Han could stomach.

“Good good... I hope my little Mi Mi would find someone in the future who will treat her as well as you treat Chen. Your relationship is very enviable.”

Mi Mi lowered her head wishing she could have some wine to drown her sorrows but her father wouldn’t let her and there was a reason for that.

Some girls can get drunk until they pass out but some girls shouldn’t touch anything above one percent alcohol content otherwise they will offend everybody.

That person was his daughter. She wasn’t allowed to drink because of that. Apart from Old Du praising Zi Han’s cooking Yi Chen didn’t hear anything after that. That’s because he was staring at Zi Han continuously with a dejected look like a wolf pup that had done something wrong.

Zi Han didn’t say anything and kept smiling while talking like there was nothing wrong at all but Yi Chen could feel the icy chill emanating from him such that it chilled his bones.

Thirty minutes later the kitchen was cleared and the siren for the city lights to be switched off rang. The houses would lose power but the streets would still be dimly lit and the district for the rich and the temple would remain lit.

Zi Han lay down on the inside out of habit and Yi Chen slept on the outside. Yi Chen stared at Zi Han’s back for a while not knowing what to do. He wanted to reach out and hug him but he also knew that Zi Han might explode.

Ready to risk it all he whispered, “Baby, can I see your handcuffs from earlier?”

Zi Han wanted to ask him, “What for,” but he didn’t feel like talking right now so he took them out and gave them to him before going back to sleep.

He was about to close his eyes when he heard a click in the darkness as his wrist was handcuffed.

“What are you doing?” he whispered while half sitting up.

Yi Chen placed his arm around Zi Han’s abdomen and said, “Just in case you run.”

Zi Han, “...”

“I know you are mad at me and I am afraid... I am afraid you would run away while I am sleeping.”

Zi Han, “WTF!”

“I came here for you so where would I run off too without you?” he asked and Yi Chen was very quick to respond.

“I have a feeling you have run away from me before and it makes me very afraid,” he whispered while pulling Zi Han closer until he could feel something hard poking at his ass.

“Are you sure you have lost your memory... because somehow I am starting to doubt you,” said Zi Han as he lay back down but who would have thought Yi Chen would half climb on top of him and proceed to kiss him. It was like being licked by a dog after coming home from a month’s vacation.

“Yi Chen... you....,” he said only for Yi Chen to cover his mouth while pressing his index finger on his lips to keep it down.
